Every expression she wore during the night had been feral.

Every word out of her mouth exciting.

Every laugh fulfilling.

Exciting.

Dangerous.

Fire had various chemical properties, but one didn’t need to be a scientist to know it burned, capable of destroying everything in its path.

That’s the path we were on and at some point, there would be a collision. But at this point I just didn’t give a damn.

Watching as Kacey scrambled to her knees was a sheer slice of heaven. I’d been unable to get her from my mind no matter how many activities, phone calls, or meetings I’d been engaged in. Perhaps working together wasn’t the best choice, but my gut told me she was a true asset.
